Anthuriums may be kept in their boxes for up to 5 days. Ideally, they
can be kept there until ready for use, once you ensure that the
moisture in the boxes has not dried out.
When unpacking, handle with care, as
anthuriums bruise easily. As soon as they are unpacked, cut off 3cm (1
inch) from the end of the flower stems with a sharp knife.
Transfer blooms to a container with
clean water. Floral preservative added to the water will keep both the
flowers and the water fresh for a longer period. Mist them daily and
every 3 days change the water, cut off another 3cm (1 inch) from the
stems and add floral preservative.
Anthuriums lose moisture through the
bloom. If you drape a plastic bag or sleeve loosely over the spathe,
this will help to keep anthuriums in top form.
As anthuriums are tropical flowers,
they must not be placed in flower coolers. They should be kept at
temperatures above 13° C (55° F) and ideally at very high humidity, no
lower than 80%.
Vase life is 10 to 30 days (when care
instructions are followed).
Do not store your anthuriums beside
fruit and vegetables as these give off a gas called ethylene which
will age the blooms. |
